Day 21 ~ Pretty Pattern

The title would more than likely make one think of something like this: patterns on fabric
However, I think of something like this: knitting patterns
My neck tends to get chilled as the cooler weather sets in. You should knit a cowl, also called a neck gaiter by some to wear this winter and all those to come. I thought to myself, you've made oodles of them for charity but not one for yourself. As my daughter, Erin brought me one (1) skein of Rowan Pure Wool Aran weight yarn in a lovely celery green from England, I decide to look for a pattern that I could use it for. I went to Ravelry and looked in my favourites to see what I had pinned there and lo and behold, there was Nic's Ashford Cowl requiring less than 180 yards of yarn. Woot! So, now I have cast on and have one repeat completed.

#77 of 365 - Obligatory Last Snow of Winter Picture

Of course, the snow is done coming down, is now trying to melt and the sun is also trying to break through as I type this.

It dropped over 40 degrees in temperature since yesterday. So, here's Erin and Pan getting warm together...

I say this is the last picture of snow in Winter, as believe it or not, Spring starts on Sunday and we are done with snow for the moment...

2009 Long's Peak Scot/Irish Festival

It was a typical second weekend of September. There was sun, wind, rain and snow on the higher elevations when we woke on Sunday morning.

The weekend in spite of the weather was a great time had by all. Quite of few new Blair faces came to visit with us over the course of the weekend. Jim and Adoree brought their usual contingent and even Erin came up on Saturday.

It was wonderful to see my friend Lysa and her family from Nederland. Lysa and I went to the same HS in NJ. It was also a treat to see, from Colorado Springs, Father John Pahls, the designer of the Colorado State Tartan and Kirk and Rebecca and Lynn and Sharon with their soft-coated Wheaten Terriers. As always, it was a treat to see the various current and former members of the Ren Scots, Bill and Michelle, Robin, Cliff and Virg, and Bob who all came by to say hello and share a wee dram or two. Along with Yvonne, Scott and Julie, Kirsten, Ross and Hannah and their auntie, Erin, most of my favorite peeps made an appearance. I totally forgot to mention Friday night at Lonigan's with the Indulgers. John Barb, Nancy and Ted and I went together, where we also encountered the Coffeys, Larry and a few other band fan regulars.

I didn't get too many pictures taken this weekend as my camera decided to act up at key moments. However, if you are on Facebook there will be many pictures showing up there I am sure.

Star Trek the Movie

GO SEE!

Nothing more need be said.

GO SEE!

We actually saw the movie! The weather changed from sunny and warm to rainy and cool between the thought of going to the movie and walking up to the box office to buy the tickets (about 2 hours). My daughter and I, after nearly 2 years of living in the Springs, have experienced either rain, snow or the weather changing every time we decide to go see a movie. We've become convince we haven't seen the movie if something is not spitting from the sky or blowing us across the parking lot.

Come Home, Little Stitches, Come Home

Here's an update on my Ravelry.com Dragonfly in Amber (DIA) KAL. (There is a picture of the first cuff, showing the yarn in an earlier post.)

So, I have one sock done on my DIA sock KAL. It's lovely and I want to wear it. I would wear it in a heart beat, if I had any other sock made of the same type of yarn, but nooooo. This was my first venture with sock weight yarn and knitting with same. All of the other socks I have made have been warm woolies as oppose to lacy woolies. I have the other sock cast on and knitted down for about 4 inches. Guess what I didn't do? Put in a lifeline and it's lace! What the Hell was I thinking? Shoot me in the head dead with an axe....

I pulled a needle out of live stitches and lost the YOs, Poo! :-( Gack...

It's been too cold and with some snowy days in there, as well, to sit outside to try and find my lost stitches. There is not enough light in my house even with all the lamps on to try and find them especially with the snow and overcast we had at the beginning of the week...

It's Almost Over - Election Day 2008

If you haven't yet, get out and vote. If you have, like I did, early, good on you. My daughter voted by mail two weeks ago and I voted early last week. I was surprised by the crowd at early voting. Really glad that I carry knitting with me at all times. I got 6 rows knitted on a charity hat while moving along to the poll workers. I think the jury is still out on those Diebold voting machines though. We will see what we will see when it's all said and done. However, I cannot wait for this day to be over as I am tired of the mean spiritness and sniping of the campaign ads. Whatever the outcome, if you didn't cast your vote, I feel that you cannot complain. If you voted you took an action and therefore I feel that one is entitled to whinge and complain...As I sat out side this morning communing with the ether, I was amazed by the sky. I took pictures and I will post them too. The time change is still playing havoc with my sleep and rising patterns so it was sunrise when I went out. That old rhyme came into my head, "Red Sky at Night, Sailor's Delight, Red Sky at Morn, Sailors Be Warned. The clouds were reflecting red all over the sky, very kewl. On to better things, on the art front, I did my first pin weaving. I will post a pix as soon as I get them downloaded. It's a little piece about 4x4 inches. It's got a pearl cotton warp and a loverly hand-dyed bamboo yarn in yellow to magenta fading to apricot in some places weft that my friend Cherie from Farm Fresh Textiles sent me to make a chemo hat for another friend of ours.
