Damn the Gods

One of my dearest etherwebs people has been diagnosed with cancer. She's an artist, a style maker and makes me laugh all the time.

I have literally been there and done that. It's no fun and makes me so damn mad when I hear of another diagnosis.

I am going to light a candle and pray. I would jump on a plane tomorrow to go help if she needed me to. I really know what that means.

I love you Anne, prayers for you and yours. Thank the Good Lord we have our faith to sustain us. Now, commence kicking cancer's ass.

Our Friend Anne

...I see that the word is out that it is our dear Anne that is in need of our love and prayers. We all know what a trouper she is ~ a fighter ~ a survivor!! She will fight hard and we will fight with her. We, as a community of bloggers and sisterfriends, have united as one to pray for Anne. She has been there for all of us, it seems. I've read comments this evening that I could have written myself about how she reaches out, listens, understands, and makes us laugh. She is talented in many ways beyond her artistic abilities and God has to be pleased with all the majestic stoles and banners she has made over the years. There is no one else quite like her. She is truly our friend. We all want to see her well, happy, and creating in the studio she loves. God is good. He will listen to our unified prayers.
We love you, Anne. Be well.

#15 of 365 - She's Alive (Sorta)

Recovered, sorta. Had a bunch of errands to run today that somehow all involved yarn... Gee, I wonder why that is?

And now a word from the Mav Crafter, thanks Margi!

Collage Mania

I would like to suggest that you all go take a look. Most especially, as I have been the beneficiary of the American Cancer Society's good works.

http://www.virginiaspiegel.com/CM2009Collages1.html

It's a reverse auction of art work in various medias, but primarily fiber related. I know a lot of the artistes from various art quilt groups I belongs to on-line.

You'll also see some of the Raven Challenge Postcards. I participated in this challenge as well. I blogged about it somewhere in the older posts.

I have been knitting more than anything for the last couple of years. I do keep my hand in quilting with challenges like the Raven card I did with QA and the Slice Quilt and the Baggos I do with the Fiber Pirates. Which reminds me I have to do a quilt for the Coffee Challenge with the Quilt Mavericks. It's due next week.

Here's part of a challenge we did over to the Fiber Pirates, it's my section of a slice quilt. Here's the Raven Challenge Postcard from the Quilt Arts group.

Renee Award - My Second Award and I am Humbled

All awards are special and some are greatly humbling to receive. I was honoured with another one this morning. My friend Anne has given me another award. Here is the link to Anne's blog, http://elmilagrostudio.blogspot.com. As you can see, I took what she wrote and added my own bits as I couldn't say it much better than she did even if I tried.

The Renee Award is relatively new and was created by Bella and Ces in honour of their friend Renee. Here's the link to Bella's Blog http://bellasinclair.blogspot.com and also to Ces' http://cesandherdishes.blogspot.com. Renee is an incredible lady, who in the face of a frightening life battle is tackling each new day with great spirit and courage. Please check out the blogs of these three creative women. Since I faced the same life battle as Renee myself, eight years ago and have survived with my humour and creativity at least somewhat in tact, I appreciate the challenges and friends that are thrown in my path all the more.

Here is what Bella says of the award: "This is a brand new award and I have the pleasure and honor of spreading the seed, watching it grow. I hope it finds its way to those who are like Renee: the acorn, a small package becoming a tall and sturdy oak, giving more acorns, becoming tall and sturdy oaks, giving acorns..."

Wow. This is a tough act to follow and I encourage you to read Tristan's post. Here's the link to Tristan's blog at http://tristanrobin.blogspot.com. Now, my job is to pass this on to eight fellow bloggers that make a difference in my life daily. There is no particular order in how I post these----everyone is on the same level for me. Friends, people who inspire me, reading I enjoy, folks who are working hard to make creativity a living breathing thing, folks who just are working hard with life. As Anne says "I salute you ALL!!!

Support

Who Supports You?

My friend, Marion, over the pond in the UK asked that question on her blog today and it got me to thinking about who supports me.

My daughter, Erin is my biggest piece of scaffolding. She lets me clutter the house with all the bits and pieces of stuff that help me to make my art. Be it yarn, fabric, beads, threads, papers, even bits and bobs of junk I find out and about.

My friends from all the different aspects of my life who support me in my artistic ventures by saying all the right things, even if I don't want to hear it. They are the knitters, The Ravelers, the quilters, The Quilt Mavericks, the fiber artistes of all sorts, the historical re-enactors, The Renaissance Scots, the paper artistes, the Scottish community, the Colorado Medieval Festival folks, the Rennies, the greyhound rescue folks, swordsmen, spinners, weavers and costume makers.

I also can never say thank you enough for all the friends that saw me through treatment for breast cancer 8 years ago and held my hand and kicked my ass when it was necessary. I have very little biological family left and my friends are the family I have made. Thanks to all for being the supports of my life. Huzzah, Huzzah, Huzzah (that's 3 cheers) to you for being there through the thick and thin.

On another note, I am way stoked about Coraline the Movie, opening this weekend. Neil Gaiman and knitting what could be better than that, I ask you?
